Music is a significant part of the lives of many people. Several genres of music have been created to suit the varied preferences, moods, and needs of people. In the year 1960’s, another kind of music was created. This is called electronic music which is now alternately referred to as house music. Its creation or birth was made possible by the invention of the first ever electronic keyboard. This musical instrument was utilized by a lot of big names in the music industry. The Beatles is just one of the many bands and individual musicians who were the first few people to make use of what was then a relatively new music genre. Not long after its invention, the technology used in electronic keyboards was applied to the regular pianos by amplifying their sound electrically. Later on, the early kind of electronic music was classified as electro-acoustic music. This was because the electronic sounds were not the most prominent parts of the musical piece. A lot of guitar and drum sounds still characterized electronic music at that time.
Jean-Michel Jarre played a huge role in the development of electronic music. He was a brilliant man who in 1968 ventured into the Electro-Classical music genre. This kind of music holds some similarity with New Age. Jarre also became a member of GRM Music Research Group which was based in Paris, France. His role in electronic music growth did not end there. He also created a ballet that was the first ever instance of electronic music being played to the public. This happened in 1971. He was also able to make several albums and was in charge of providing musical score to several films. He also did concerts with an audience of up to a million. During these concerts, he did not only provide audio entertainment. He wowed the crowd with different lights, lasers, images shown on large projectors, and even fireworks. Years after, this became a part of the custom of Synthrop and Rave concerts as well as house music.

Another person who was instrumental in the growth of electronic or house music was a man named Robert Moog. During the year 1964, he created the Moog Synth. This is revolutionary because it made it possible for ordinary individuals to gain access to the technology of an analogue synthesizer. This is an instrument that can be used to produce a modern sounding music which was aptly called Electronica. This kind of music involved several varieties of electronic musical instruments such as electronic keyboard and drums as well as synthesizers. Unlike in electro-classical or electro-acoustic music, electronic was teeming with numerous electronic sounds.
Some people are finding it hard to tell the different kinds of electronic music from each other. This includes techno music, acid jazz music house music, new wave, and dance music. Distinctions are usually based on the lyrics of the musical piece or the lack of it, the different timbres which have been applied, and the melody as well as the mood the song.
